CAMIPRO student card

What is it?

CAMIPRO is your EPFL student card, a kind of EPFL ID card. It has an electronic chip. You use it to pay on campus, to open some locked rooms and to get discounts. (The official CAMIPRO home page still lists “borrow a bike”; that was the PubliBike Campus pass, which ceased end of December 2025. Current campus bike-sharing is Lime, see Bikes below.) It is personal and you can't lend it to anyone. (CAMIPRO Card)

The first card is free. (Problems & FAQ CAMIPRO)

How do new students get it?

Photo: To verify. Official CAMIPRO, matriculation and new-student pages do not say how Bachelor's or Master's students submit the photo that appears on the CAMIPRO card. What is confirmed: Bachelor applicants upload an identity photo with the online application (JPEG, 3/4 portrait, face and neck filling the image, min. 750×1000 px, max. 2 MB) (How to apply? – Bachelor), but that page does not say the photo is used for CAMIPRO; the Master's online-application page lists ID/passport and does not ask for a separate identity photo (Online application – Master); exchange/project students are asked for a passport photo on a different page that is not written for BSc/MSc CAMIPRO (Preparation of the registration – project). The Master's FAQ only says the card is supplied by the Academic Service on arrival (FAQ – Master, in French), and the only EPFL document that says an uploaded picture "will be used for your student card" is the Student Exchange Office's application guide for exchange/project students, not degree-seeking BSc/MSc students (Application guide – exchange). Once you have a card, a wrong picture or name is fixed at the Student Services Desk (BP 1229), and you can download your CAMIPRO photo from people.epfl.ch (Problems & FAQ CAMIPRO). On people.epfl.ch, "The default photo is the one on your CAMIPRO card"; you can replace it with another portrait for your profile, but that page is about your online profile, not how the photo first gets onto the card (Change profile picture). Check your admission emails or ask the Student Services Desk for the BSc/MSc photo step.

First step: validate it every semester

When you arrive, validate your card at a CAMIPRO terminal. This records your status and how long the card is valid. Do this again every semester. (Your New Camipro Card) To find the terminals, open the campus map at plan.epfl.ch, go to "Shops and services" and tick "Camipro machines". (Problems & FAQ CAMIPRO)

What you can do with it

Lost or stolen card?

  1. Block it right away in myCamipro (log in with your EPFL account). If you can't, call the CAE (EPFL's alarm monitoring and operations centre, CAMIPRO directive LEX 1.5.8) on +41 21 693 40 00, 24/7. If you find the card again, you can unblock it in myCamipro. (Lost, stolen or defect CAMIPRO card, EPFL news: Block and reactivate)
  2. Order a new card at the Student Services Desk in the BP building. It costs CHF 25, paid by debit or credit card (no cash). A new card is free if it was stolen and you show a copy of your police report. If you order a new card and then find the old one, you can't cancel the order. (Lost, stolen or defect CAMIPRO card)
  3. The money on a blocked card stays on your account, but EPFL does not refund money that someone else spent with it before you blocked it. (CAMIPRO directive LEX 1.5.8)

When you leave EPFL: keep your card. It can be reactivated if you come back within 12 months. To get back the money left on it, go to the AGEPoly office. (Problems & FAQ CAMIPRO)
