What this page is for

How to start using the EPFL Library in the Rolex Learning Center (RLC), and how printing, copying and scanning work and what they cost. Your CAMIPRO card is both your library card and your printing badge.

Library basics (Rolex Learning Center)

Cantonal and university library (BCU Lausanne): see BCU Lausanne library card.

Register once (swisscovery), then borrow with CAMIPRO

Registration is free and online, and you do not need to visit the desk afterwards:

  1. Create a SWITCH edu-ID account (or log in if you have one). Use a private email address, not your EPFL one, to secure the account.
  2. Link your EPFL account in SWITCH edu-ID (log in with your GASPAR credentials).
  3. Create your swisscovery account and accept the terms.

Then borrow at the self-service loan terminals with your CAMIPRO card, which also works in all swisscovery libraries (about 500 in Switzerland). You do not need a Swiss postal address to create a SWITCH edu-ID.

Loan rules (5 Oct 2026):

City libraries: Lausanne's municipal libraries are free and separate from EPFL Library: see Culture on a student budget.

Printing, copying and scanning (myPrint)

Your account: every enrolled student automatically has a myPrint account; you need it to use EPFL printers. Your CAMIPRO card has two purses: the normal CAMIPRO purse (cafeterias, shops) and a separate myPrint purse used only for printing.

Semester allowance (as published on 5 Oct 2026): students enrolled in a semester usually get CHF 24 per semester, about 600 black-and-white A4 pages, double-sided. New students receive it a few days before the semester starts; returning students about 2 to 3 weeks after it starts. PhD students, doctoral assistants and exchange students do not get it. Some schools add extra. EPFL says the amount can change without notice and is not a right. Any unused balance carries over to the next semester.

When it runs out: you get an email warning and printing stops until you top up. Move money from your CAMIPRO purse to myPrint in the web interface (on campus or via VPN). Transfers go one way only, and you cannot transfer print credit to a friend. A job that costs more than your balance is not printed at all.

Prices for EPFL students (myPrint prices page, 5 Oct 2026):

Format Black and white Colour
A4 single-sidedCHF 0.06CHF 0.10
A4 double-sided (per sheet)CHF 0.08CHF 0.16
A3 single-sidedCHF 0.12CHF 0.20
A3 double-sided (per sheet)CHF 0.20CHF 0.36
Scan (any)freefree

Posters (approximate, standard paper): A2 CHF 2.75, A1 CHF 5.50, A0 CHF 11. A print in an unspecified format can be charged CHF 2, so always pick A4 or A3.

Avoid paying colour prices by accident: billing is per page, so one colour page in a 20-page file costs 19 black-and-white pages plus 1 colour page. Use the SecurePrint-BW queue for black-and-white jobs; "grayscale" options in some software (for example Adobe Acrobat) can still be billed as colour. You can also choose black and white when releasing the job at the printer.

How to print:

Problems: IT Service Desk 1234 (from outside +41 21 693 1234), 1234@epfl.ch, MA A0 392, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00. EPFL says the allowance is partly meant to absorb printing errors, so it does not handle claims under CHF 10 unless the accounting is clearly wrong.

Leaving EPFL: you can get back money you loaded yourself during your last semester (not the allowance), at the latest 1 month after your account closes, by emailing myPrint@epfl.ch. It goes back to your CAMIPRO purse; you can then collect it via AGEPoly, or by bank transfer if it is over CHF 20. See also Leaving and deregistering.

To verify: the myPrint FAQ (Library-computer section, under “For EPFL students and staff members”) still says the colour Canon after the Teaching Collection charges CHF 0.50 per sheet if you forget SecurePrint-BW, while the student prices page lists colour A4 at CHF 0.10 (and the same FAQ’s own “How much does an impression cost?” table matches that). myPrint Terms say EPFL rates are the same on every printer and that visitor rates are a little higher; visitor A4 colour duplex is 50 cent on the guest prices page. Both figures are still live on official myPrint pages (FAQ not updated). Check the price shown at the printer before you release a colour job.
