Electricity when you move into a private flat (SiL / Romande Energie)

Who this is for

Students in a private flat or room where the lease makes the occupant responsible for electricity (and sometimes heat/water/multimedia). Student halls often bill utilities differently; check your hall contract first.

Your commune address decides the grid company. Rough starter map (confirm on the lease / meter / landlord):

To verify: ask the landlord or check the meter / previous bills if the building is on a different supplier (some buildings use another distributor). Do not assume every EPFL-area flat is Romande Energie.

SiL pages for individuals:

Official rule (SiL): announce any address change at least 15 working days in advance so everything is ready when you arrive. Individuals: use the online service / mySiL portal (paths linked from the déménagement hub: nouvel arrivant, stay on SiL network, or leave the network).

SiL can cover electricity and, depending on the building, other products (heat, gas, multimedia). Open the live SiL product pages for what your address has.

The electricity announcement is separate from any internet contract: see Home internet for a private flat.

On move-in you get a default tariff; you can later ask for a tariff that fits your use (simple vs dual meter). Product choice (e.g. Énergie Suisse / Énergie Romande) is separate from the meter tariff. kWh prices: use Romande Energie’s live tariff pages for your locality; ElCom oversees pricing (company wording). Do not copy a CHF/kWh figure into this kit without a dated quote from that page.
